This story is about one pharmacist efforts to develop an accepta ble drug to manage heart arrhythmia in infants, but she inadvert ently discovered a powerful truth serum instead. Unbeknownst to the pharmacist and her team of researchers the projects financiers schemed to manipulate the research to test and perfect the serum without exposing its efforts to the marketplace. The financier’s goal was to secretly have the serum developed and tested before his competition even knew what hit them allow ing his firm to corner the market. During the clinical trial the effects of the truth serum prominently displayed itself when several par t icipants, looking to help find a cure for heart disease confessed their deepest secrets to administrators. One revealed that as a teenager he and several of his fraternity brothers gang raped a classmate which resulted in a child that he had neglected all of its life, another participant revealed that they were running from a hit and run fatality charge caused during their drinking and driving while celebrating his entering into the military the next morning. The most profound admission came from a participant who ad mitted to having a split personality one of which was that of an ac t ive serial killer. When this perfect storm finally came together it was in the midst of the final watch of a seasoned NYPD Detective with one foot out the door and the other on a banana peel. After a 26 year career speckled with a series of unconscionable missteps and indis cretions when this case landed on Det. Booker T. Watts desk no one thought the case would ever be solved, but he promised his partner that he would do it and that he would do it before his re t irement.
