Dr. Fabian recognizes the relationship, and interdependence, of the Mind, Body and Spirit of the human being. As such, he treats the individual as a whole, providing interventions that respect and make use of this integrity.

Working primarily from a psychological perspective (that aspect involving the Mind of this three part whole), he introduces techniques derived from psychological science, as well as traditional/ ancient systems of thought that have direct influence on the psychological health and physical well being of the individual.

He respects the power of each-individual to effect change in their life, both physical and psychological, and promotes the personal empowerment of each client.

About Us

Dr. Fabian

Dr. William Fabian received his doctorate in Biological Psychology in 1982 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. As a MASUA traveling scholar he continued his post-doctoral training in Clinical Psychology through the Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma and the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

From there he began his career as a full time faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington D.C. There he founded and ran the Panic and Anxiety Disorder Program in addition to training Psychology Interns, Psychiatry Residents, and Social Work Personal.

After 11 years he moved in to private practice and in cooperation with the George Washington University Department of Psychology founded the GW Center for Mind/Body Integration.

He currently holds a Clinical Associate Professorship with the George Washington University and has a private practice in both the Nation’s capital and in Northern Pennsylvania.

A.  Anxiety is a set of automatic, complex reactions to a perceived threat.

A.  Anxiety is the body’s automatic response to a threatening situation.  It is a bodily mechanism that helps insure survival.  The biological response allows for the rapid mobilization of physical resources to give an individual emergency energy to deal with an unusual, threatening circumstance. 

A. Everyone experiences anxiety at some time.  About one in ten people have a serious anxiety problem that goes beyond what one would consider normal.

A. Anxiety is the body’s natural reaction to threat and is normally very adaptive.  Under various circumstances of life, unchecked anxiety can evolve into something extreme and interfere with normal activities 

Anxiety is regarded as a problem needing treatment when the experience is out of proportion to the circumstance stimulating the anxiety. Anxiety is a problem when it interferes with job related, social, or interpersonal activities.
